Feng Shui Weddings?
By:Antonia Calzetti
"Lately, it seems that one out of every two brides who call us ask about creating a 'Feng Shui wedding'," says Brenda Yagmin, one of the founders of Conjure. "Our job is to do the research for our bridal couples. If we don't know something, we call the professionals in that field. In this instance, we called upon Michael Schnippering, a Feng Shui Auditor, to help demystify this popular trend." What is Feng Shui? According to Michael Schnippering of Feng Shui at Work in Dallas, Texas, "A Feng Shui wedding is an absolute ridiculous idea. Feng Shui is about your environment and the impact the energies are having on you at your home or office. Feng Shui is a complicated set of theories and calculations derived from the I-Ching. The goal of Feng Shui is to achieve a state of harmony between the space and its inhabitants." Feng Shui & Weddings While the Feng Shui ideology might seem compatible with that of a wedding, the fact is, the theory of Feng Shui should only be applied to spaces that you spend great amounts of time in, such as an office space or home. "A chapel rented for four hours or an entire week has energies, yet, guests are not inside long enough to be impacted by those energies," says Schnippering. Conjure's solution to the bridal couples they serve is to offer a home makeover by a qualified Feng Shui Auditor. Fees are generally based on the area being surveyed. A typical audit runs from $250.00 and up for up to 1000 s/f of space. "I've been hearing so much about Feng Shui that I thought it might be a unique thing to incorporate into my upcoming wedding," says JoAnne Sweeney. "Conjure was really helpful in researching the possibility of having one. When they came back to us with their findings, my fiance and I decided against incorporating Feng Shui into our wedding day and decided to utilize it in our new home." By providing brides and grooms with a greater understanding of Feng Shui's theory and remedies, Conjure empowers their clients to make knowledgeable choices about their wedding. "Wedding clients who receive the proper knowledge from their event designer will return to us for repeated service," says Yagmin. "There are a lot of planners and designers out there who don't do the research behind client's requests - we pride ourselves on our individualized attention." And both clients and vendors alike appreciate the research. "I appreciate working with a designer who doesn't agree to everything I want," says Sweeney. "I want to work with someone who gives me proper information." And Schnippering agrees: "It's easy to hand out the wrong information sometimes. I appreciate being called on to right the wrong information floating out there."
